This year has seen the biggest mass retirements I have seen in a long time. In a 4-5 month period we have seen retirement announcements from:

Chris Shaw

Pryda & F&T employee

47 years

Kevin Labrooy

Multinail & Pryda

42 years

Peter Hutchison

MiTek

35 years

Ian Currie

Pryda

34 years

Cathy Fraser

MiTek

31 years

That’s a whopping 189 years of combined knowledge of the frame and truss industry. It just demonstrates how amazing our industry sector is, especially when it comes to lifelong careers.

I have been absolutely honoured to work with all five of the above for the past 16+ years and all five have been highly respected from all within the frame and truss industry.

I’ve always said, this industry is based on relationships, and the one thing that connects the fabulous five above, is their amazing ability to nurture great relationships within the industry. I have no doubt; they have lifelong friendships from their time in the industry.

In next month’s FTMA News we will feature a story on the five retirees. We will be asking them all the same questions, and I am excited to see their responses on questions such as:

  • How did you start in the industry? What was your role at the start, and at the end of your career?
  • What is your greatest achievement in the industry?
  • Wha did you love most about the sector?
  • What is the biggest change you have seen in the industry over the past 30+ years.
  • What’s the biggest challenge do you think the industry is facing

Change is always something people find hard, but we are pleased to see that MiTek, Multinail & Pryda have all employed outstanding people to fill the shoes of these five retirees.

Congratulations to Chris, Kevin, Peter, Ian and Cathy. On a personal level, thanks for the support your have given FTMA and me over the years. We wish you all well in your retirement.
