As the demand for reliable, locally made timber increases across NSW, AKD is stepping up to meet the moment. Backed by national strength and a proud heritage of over 70 years, AKD is growing its presence to better support the long-term needs of the NSW timber market.
AKD is Australia’s largest softwood sawmilling business, and we’ve built our long-standing reputation on decades of quality products, exceptional service, supply security, growth orientated, relationship focussed and a commitment to doing things the right way – from stump to store.
With a vertically integrated model and a wide product range, AKD is focused on delivering consistent, sustainable timber products that support Australian builders and fabricators -without compromising on quality or our values.
A Growing Presence Where It Matters
While the national scale brings strength, it’s the local investment that makes the difference.
AKD now operates two major sawmills in New South Wales with the Oberon sawmill now fully integrated into AKD. This sawmill processes over 550,000m³ of sawlog annually with a team of more than 200 people, and Tumut, which processes 250,000m³ and has recently undergone a significant upgrade with the installation of a new Horizontal Shaping Saw.
These sawmills are supported by a dedicated NSW Distribution Centre, purpose-built to service the framing and truss market with improved delivery times and greater responsiveness across NSW and the ACT. Whether you’re working through a boom or navigating slowdowns, our expanded footprint gives you greater reliability, flexibility, and the confidence to plan ahead.

AKD recently celebrated the beginning of an exciting new chapter with Oberon officially joining the AKD group
We understand the Frame & Truss market needs more than timber on a truck. It needs clear communication, reliable timeframes, and options that suit the job.
Our NSW-based operations offer:
- Locally produced structural and landscape sleeper products
- AKD Terminator treatment capacity at both mills
- Pack docking capabilities to meet DTL stud specifications
- A make-to-order process that keeps things efficient and practical
Backed by a dedicated sales team, including two recent additions on the ground in NSW, AKD is focused on building strong relationships with local customers, with a bit of fun along the way. Whether it’s helping customers scale through busy cycles or improve efficiencies, our team is ready to support.
“We’re not just supplying timber – we’re working with our customers to help them grow, become more efficient, and get through the ups and downs of the market together. The investment in Oberon is a key part of that.” – Liam Buchanan, AKD General Manager – Sales.
In addition our expanded footprint in New South Wales is also supported by our Colac sawmill in the south or our Caboolture sawmill in the north, providing either a wider product range or additional supply security. AKD also owns more than 11,000 hectares of certified radiata pine plantations, assessed to international standards. For every tree harvested from these certified plantations, at least one is replanted. And it’s not just about regrowth, timber plays a vital role in reducing carbon in the atmosphere. A typical Australian timber-framed home stores almost 9 tonnes of CO₂.
Let’s talk timber.
Whether you’re already working with us or just starting to hear the AKD name, we’re here, we’re invested, and we’re ready to grow with you.
